Marcia Garber, a lifelong Catholic, currently living in Manchester, NH, has been a member of Dignity/Boston since Pentecost, 2006. Her family had been active members of a traditional, institutional Catholic parish until 2006 when during the legislative battle for marriage equality, their parish asked for signatures on a petition to deny marriage equality. it became clear to her that she could no longer participate in a church that did not support our child's (and all children’s) quest for intimacy and love. Marcia traveled to World Meeting of Families 2015 to share the story of my family with Pope Francis and fellow pilgrims. Our transgender son, CJ, was tortured by the discrimination he experienced (including from the church). Marcia hoped that by participating in World Meeting of Families, she could help educate the Church about the needs of LGBTQIA Catholics and their families and provide an example of a Catholic parent who supports LGBTQIA kids.
